President Barack Obama has issued Presidential Study Directive No. 8 dated December 21, 2009 to revamp the export control regime that includes International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). The ITAR regime has been a historic flashpoint between space launch and commercial satellite firms and national security hawks in the Congress, according to Space News. President Obama has directed space policy reviews that are now underway and expected to come into focus with the next federal budget proposals from the White House.
