Launch teams are proceeding full-speed at Kazakhstan's Baikonur Cosmodrome fomr a 6:18 p.m. EDT (2218 GMT) launch of cosmonauts and astronauts aboard the Soyuz TMA-21 spacecraft, nicknamed the Yuri Gagarin in honor of the 50th anniversary of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's first human spaceflight on April 12, 1961. NASA-TV will provide LIVE coverage.
On Tuesday, April 12, 2011, and the preceeding weekend, thousands around the globe will join "Yuri's Night" parties and ceremonies planned to get underway around the world. The Russians have declared 2011 the Year of the Cosmonaut.
