Space Elevator Competition Opens in Toyko

Fifteen Japanese, German and American university teams started into academic competition to set new records for space elevator technologies, ITN-News video. Teams appeared to be troubled by windy weather. Space elevator advocates believe that space elevator technology may be realized in the not-so-distant future but it will require a significant research effort that may take years to develop.
