Space Florida said Friday it has secured the rights for space launch complexes 46 and 36 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and will proceed with construction and refurbishment work at both locations for commercial space launch use.
Mark Bontrager, vice president of Space Florida’s spaceport operations, said securing the rights opens up “additional opportunities for Florida to take full advantage of the rapidly emerging commercial space marketplace.”
Space Florida said it will work with the Federal Aviation Administration on the necessary due diligence required to secure a launch site operator’s license for each complex. That process is expected to take 180 days. More from Patrick Air Force Base.
SpaceX now has use of Launch Complex 40.
