Commercial professional astronaut?

If one were seeking to become an astronaut in he next decade that the best opportunities may be as a commercial astronaut - so say 52% of blog poll participants. With the trending shift to commercial space vehicles and a number of commercial space launch capsules and winged cockpit space vehicles in various stages of development, the majority result does appear the correct professional direction today. Nonetheless, 25% continue to point to opportunity as a NASA astronaut.

The FAA created the Commercial Astronaut category in 2004. Mike Melvill and Brian Bennie are the only two people to hold the awards from the federal regulatory agency after successfully piloting SpaceShipOne to space from California's Mojave Desert.
