Today, August 16th marks the 50th anniversary of Col. Joe Kittinger’s historic leap becoming the first man in space, when he jumped from a balloon more than 100,000 feet in the air. It’s a record that still stands to this day, despite many attempts to break it. Kittinger is 81. More from Space.com.
