US Senator Bill Nelson (D-Florida), a key member of the pro-space Congressional delegation and former space shuttle flight participant, has spoken directly with President Barark Obama about the future of the American space program. The Senator now expects the President to make presidential space policy decisions prior to Thanksgiving, he told WFTV9 [video]today. Nelson indicated that the US civil space programs needs $27-billion more over the next decade to to replace the shuttle after 2011, continue flights to the International Space Station, and to take care of NASA’s workers. There was no mention of the commercial NewSpace effort. More from SpacePoltitics.com with lots of comment.
