NASA is spending $24 million on launch and test infrastructure at its Wallops flight facility where Orbital Sceinces Corporation will launch its Taurus II rocket from the Virginia-owned Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport and Kennedy Space Center, where SpaceX will operate its Falcon 9 booster, reports Rob Coppinger at Flightglobal. The two spaceports represent what will be the vanguard pad locations of the orbital commercial space launch business designed to resupply the orbiting space station to 2020 and perhaps beyond. Both Orbital Sciences Corporation and SpaceX have commercial crew studies and designs in-the-works for possible use in 2015.
