The New Mexico Spaceport Authority has announced that Armadillo Aerospace of Rockwell, Texas, plans to launch three NASA-funded tests of their vertical takeoff and landing rocket technology from Spaceport America in Sierra County this winter, reports KRWG News.
"These launches mark an important step in NASA's plan to empower the emerging commercial spaceflight industry [vid] to assume a greater role in the nation's space program," said Rick Homans, executive director of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority. "Spaceport America is the launch pad for this new industry, and Armadillo's decision to launch here affirms our important position."
Meanwhile, nearly 600 workers are building Spaceport America facilities in Southern New Mexico east of the town Truth or Consequences at Upham, New Mexico descirbing it as "very futuristic. It looks like a sting ray. It's a 110,000 square foot terminal hanger facility. It's 3 stories. There's 47,000 square feet that will be for the hanger facility that will house the mother ship [WhiteKinght 2]," David Wilson said, a spokesperson for the Spaceport America, according to WZZM.

The New Mexico Spaceport Authority is is accepting applications for a deputy director to oversee the daily operations of Spaceport America. The deputy director will be responsible for flight and ground safety, tenant relations, FAA compliance programs, and technical, security and maintenance services.
